Platform groupies, step right up

A contest has been launched -- on the web, naturally -- to find the "best" web platform, whatever that may mean. It's a true head-to-head programming contest, rather than just a shouting match between advocates.

The contest initially included Java EE, .NET, PHP, Python and Ruby-on-Rails. This arouesd some ire in the Perl camp, who insisted that their language is just as valid as the others, and demanded to take part. Sure enough, the contest now includes the Web's oldest scripting language.

Let's just hope the INTERCAL fans don't find out.
