It's taken nearly three years, but one small victory for sanity can be celebrated. BT has finally admitted that nobody uses its ADSL services to get at the portals the company has created. Online shopping, movie clips, business services and banking are not the reasons people want broadband - they want broadband to get at the Net faster and with less fuss. If by some chance they do want any of the above services, they're perfectly capable of finding them: all they need from BT is a big fat connection.
Which is what we've been saying ever since we got on the first round of beta testing only to be confronted by some sort of fake aquarium with digital mermaids. If only BT had listened then, it would have saved a lot of money and the embarrassment today of losing ADSL service because its servers got spiked with the Nimda worm.
It's never nice to say, "we told you so". Ah, who are we kidding? It's enormous fun!
