And to close, a public service announcement. Have you ever been looking at Acrobat PDF files online, only to have the reader refuse to load and your browser lock up? I have, and despite much fussing and tweaking it still happens. There's no mention on the problem on Adobe's website, so I assumed it was just Windows ME messing up again.
But long-time pal Robert Schifreen has found a fix. He had to, as his security magazine - www.techsupportalert.com -- is published in PDF form on CD and you can't go crashing your readers' computers. Especially if you're an expert in making the things work in the first place. Judging from the reaction when Rob mentioned this online, there are a lot of people out there suffering from this problem and so it is with the greatest delight that I proffer this fix. Take it away, Robert!
In Acrobat Reader v4
1. Load Acrobat 2. From the File menu, select Preferences/General. 3. Ensure that the Web Browser Integration box is unchecked.
In Acrobat Reader v5
1. Load Acrobat 2. From the File menu, select Preferences. 3. Click the Options tab. 4. Ensure that "Display PDF file in browser" is turned off.
