Best Woman in Tech

Posted by David Meyer

Congratulations to Shirin Dehghan, CEO of mobile network-optimisers Avieso, for winning the overall prize at BlackBerry's second Women & Technology awards.

According to RIM, the judges were particularly impressed at Dehghan's commitment to facilitating remote working among her employees - always a good thing. In terms of categories Dehghan was the winner of the SME category.

Other winners included IBM's Mandy Chessell (corporate), IT Wales' Beti Williams (academic), Coca Cola's Tania Howarth (pan-European), the University of St Andrews' Karen Petrie (most promising woman under 25), Guardian freelancer Caramel Quin (aka Gadget Girl - best writer), Opt2vote's Ann-Marie Slavin (best female entrepreneur) and Goldman Sachs (best company).

Arieso provides network optimisation and planning for operators like O2 and Cingular.

I was at the awards last night. They do a great job of recognising the acheivements of women in technology, but I look forward to the day when they simply aren't necessary! You can read more about the event here.
