Moore laws

Posted by Rupert Goodwins

A piece currently in the works here at ZDNet UK talks about the peculiarly slow way new ideas seep through the industry, especially compared with the speed at which the technology itself advances. This, says the piece, is best characterised by Bhaskar Chakravorti's maxim "Technology's impact in the market will most likely proceed at only half the speed predicted by Moore.", also known as "Demi Moore's Law".

Now there are two Moore's Laws, by rights there should soon be four, er, Moore. I'd like to suggest the following:

Patrick Moore's Law: Technology will soon be fast enough to do what you need - but when exactly? We Just Don't Know.

Brian Moore's Law: The solution you seek is to be found at the back of the Net

Dennis Moore's Law: The differential between rich and poor will double every 18 months

Roger Moore's Law: Any new technology will work twice as well if you wear a safari jacket

Bet you can do better than that...

Alan Moore's Law: Any new technology will be taken up at a rate exponential to the number of classic technologies it combines

Gary Moore's Law: Guitar solos get twice as fast every eighteen months.

I thought Dennis Moore's law was to do with lupins...
