Quick round-up of things worth seeing

Posted by Rupert Goodwins

There must be fifteen ways to leave your laptop - Joel Spolsky muses on why there are fifteen different ways to shut down a laptop under Vista, while the iPod (sorry, Zune Masters) has no separate power switch or menu item for that at all. In particular, read Moishe Lettyn's insider story of how such a thumping mess came to pass. Lots of insight into the way Microsoft works these days, and almost unbelievable - for anyone who hasn't worked in a big company that's literaly out of control.

And talking of broken windows, the Wii is beginning to get a name for itself as rather more interactive than may be entirely desirable

Apple Tablet? Apple iPhone? WIll 2007 be the year Apple goes me-too and produces nothing we ain't seen before?

Zu... Zu... must resist... must... Zu... oh, ok. It's true, I haven't seen one yet. Andy Ihnatko has.
