Launch day for Vista

Posted by RichardThurston

Who'd have thought it? Finally, after all those delays (and considerable hostile fire from several corners of the industry) Microsoft is ready to launch Vista this afternoon. ZDNet UK's reporters are now Weetabixed-up and ready with notebooks and cameras to bring you the latest from the London launch.

We'll have for you the latest news and views from the launch event along with four Special Reports on Vista, Exchange 2007, Office 2007 - and the alternatives to Redmond lock-in.

All upcoming later in the day. Check back on www.zdnet.co.uk for regular updates.

Where do you think the first lawcase will come from? I'm betting from Google for MS embedding a desktop search engine that will effectively makes Google's useless. Netscape anyone?

Haha, yeah, I put up a blog post about that sort of thing. Linux can embed pretty much whatever they like, as can Apple. But not M$, Windows can get sued for having a native media player - didn't someone sue them for Movie Maker as well?

_Hopefully_, those kind of lawsuits will die out against the age old virtue of common sense, but I doubt it.

I will however be sitting on my hands regarding Vista until plenty of others have given me a very good reason for needing to upgrade - XP just happens to do everything I want of it, at home and work, so apart from bells and whistles I can happily do without using why change?
