Radioactive...

Posted by Rupert Goodwins

After many years secretly hoping that all this strange technology gubbins would go away, Radio 4 has finally caved in and got its own IT programme. It's called Click On. I've been involved behind the scenes with this since last year, when I recorded a segment of a pilot for the team pitching for the slot. It came to pass that they got it - and I tagged along for the ride.

A shockingly short period of time from the word go, and it's on air (in fact, the broadcast dates were brought forward - hilarity ensued!). The first one was recorded yesterday and went out tonight, and you can hear it for seven days on the very fine Listen Again via the show's web site.

Let me know what you think...

Grrr would love to listen to the dulcet tones of Ruperts' goodself - but why the insistence on Real ???

If you agree with ga22ar about RealPlayer, then the forthcoming BBC Media TV download service using all Microsoft software will drive you nuts. To object, fill in this survey - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consult/open-consultations/

In the days of people using PS3s and Wiis as media centres, there's simply no excuse for this proprietary lock-in. Not to mention funneling the license fee direct to Redmond.

Anyway, back on topic - it's good that a more reasoned show about IT, featuring (gasp!) people with a clue, has finally made it on air.

Agree entirely. It's about time we had a show that's about more than how to insert a floppy disk in the drive...

Well done, Rupes.

Here's a link to the BBC consultation about the on-demand and streaming IP services.

If you don't want to have to pay Bill a tax to enjoy the BBC, I recommend you pootle over there and make your thoughts known. I have.
