Adobe's CS3 update--what do you think?
As for price, CS3 packages range from about £830 to £2,300, with upgrades coming cheaper.
That's a hefty chunk of cash. So is it value for money? Photoshop can now handle some video image editing, and several applications have a more Web-friendly sheen. Is that what people want? £830 to £2,300 eh? As a personal user, I don't honestly think I'll want to spend this much money on an upgrade. I did spend a lot of money on getting Photoshop CS2 and it has all the features that I need for the moment.
Maybe in another 8 years time. I made Photoshop 5.5 last a long time and I'm planning to make CS2 last as well.
To be fair, those are the prices to buy off the shelf. If you're upgrading, it's a lot cheaper: CS3 Web Premium costs £534.62 if you already own a copy of CS Standard 2.0.
Looking at Adobe's online store, it can be a bit of a tangle to work out how much it will cost you to upgrade: It all depends on which particular product or package you already own. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few people get the price they need to pay wrong.
It depends on what you want to do. For a very long time I thought that Photoshop 3 was all I would ever need. When I started working on websites I just had to upgrade. Today customers start asking me for video editing. So I am serously thinking about upgrading to the master suite.
