To Blackberry, or Not To Blackberry
"I hate having a Blackberry. I leave it on my desk, charging, as a matter of principal."
I was recently toying with the idea of making the case for getting Blackberries for my team and I - staying in touch, always connected, etc.
Few months ago Orange produced a whitepaper that went against the flow. Sometimes feels like we are all morally obliged buy into a tech trend, regardless of looking at all the consequences. The whitepaper - http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Business&c=OUKPage&cid=1144404026002 - looked at both sides of always being emailable. It quoted extensive feedback - such as the quote above - from people revolting against mobile devices.
The conclusion was refreshingly balanced – being contactable is sometimes great, but not all the time. Work / Life, and all that,
So, I think I will be asking for the old push email, but making sure it stays in my desk draw when I go home for the weekend.
