Ingenious 'Iraqi' spam
Spam is one of my pet hates. It's dangerous, it wastes time, it's expensive to clean up -- it reminds me of some government IT projects. And the results of UK Government policy on Iraq.
This morning I got some spam I thought quite ingenious, however, if badly spelt. The email is purportedly from an Iraqi, inviting contracts for reconstruction efforts. The text reads:
Attention: The managing director/owner
Ref: Iraqi re-construction efforts - various supplies.
Dear sir/Maddam,
My name is hussein haddad; this is a contract invitation from Iraqi. My benefactor in the new PM Al-maliki regime is the director general of the budget department/debt management office (DMO) of the ministry of finance.
He has mandated me to seek for your co-operation in a multi million dollars worth of contracts to supplies on various goods /construction
If your company is capable of supplying items, then kindly respond immediately detailing your direct telephone numbers and exclusive e-mail and a scanned attachment of your well articulated tender/products and prices.
As soon as we receive these, I shall get back to you with details exclusively. The final decision would be predicated upon your company's capability, thanks for your co-operation

I'm assuming it's either trying to get me to confirm my email address, or is trying to set me up for a 419, or some direct marketing. What do you think?
