5/29/07 - Is Your Cell Phone At Risk? Take Easy Steps To Protect Your Mobile.

I have found that the average cell phone user has very little knowledge of the threats that exist for their cell phone. There is a common misconception that threats only exist if the phone has Bluetooth capabilities or if it is a multifunction device (i.e. Blackberry/Smartphone). Unfortunately with the rising level of mobile content (i.e. music, video, and mobile banking) the threats are ever increasing for all cell phones. Today there are viruses that can be sent to look like innocent text messages that can remove or otherwise hijack the cell phone’s internal data. Some people say to me that they don’t need antivirus protection because they don’t use those features they just make calls and exchange text messages with their friends. Unfortunately, it may not be something that you do directly that can cause harm to your handset. If any one of your many contacts gets a mobile virus, it could very likely effect your phone too. Like a computer virus that affects every system on a network, your contacts list puts your phone at significant external risk. I don’t want to create a scare tactic blog here, but I do want cell phone users to have an honest voice they can turn to regarding mobile security. I hope you will show your support by following and sharing this blog with as many people as you can. I’ll check in regularly to add to this blog.
