The Great Domain Runs

Posted by Rupert Goodwins

Unapologetic plundering of other people's blogs to start the week, because if you don't live in a world dominated by search engine heuristics and online advertising revenues you probably don't read John Batelle's Searchblog. You ought to - the way things are going, the microbes on Titan are probably going to be worrying about search engine optimisation before the year's out.

Anyway. Mr Batelle himself links in turn to Resource Shelf, a mildly esoteric metasearch blog - which reports (here comes the main course) a regular list of Microsoft and Google domain registrations. Google's up to... well, nothing much. The most intriguing is p6058.com, which given the company's habits is probably some obscure mathematical reference to the inside leg measurement of a differentiated spline on the ecliptic plane.

Microsoft, however... ah, Microsoft. What have you got in store for us, you scamps? The list makes toothsome reading.

Hyper-V. Something to do with hypervisors and virtualisation? Whatever it is, MS is hyper-excited about it.

buyhyper-v.com
buymicrosofthyper-v.com
buywindowshyper-v.com
buywindowsserverhyper-v.com
downloadhyper-v.com
hyper-vclub.com
hyper-vcom.com
hyper-vdownload.com
hyper-vlive.com

(etc, etc, etc.)

But what if you don't like the Hyper-V? Unbelievable, I know, but there are people out there who have yet to realise the beauty of Microsoft's message. This domain's for you, chum:

hyper-vsucks.com

And awards are the in-thing, darling. Simply anyone who is anyone has them:

microsoftbusinessawards.com
microsoftbusinessawards.net
microsoftbusinessawards.org

Especially the dynamics entrepreneurs. Are you a Dynamics Entrepreneur? If so, your ship has come, dynamically, in:

dynamicsentrepreneurbeta.com
dynamicsentrepreneursolution.com
dynamicsentrepreneursolutionbeta.com
getdynamicsentrepreneur.com
getdynamicsentrepreneursolution.com
getmicrosoftdynamicsentrepreneursolution.com
getmsdynamicsentrepreneur.com
getmsdynamicsentrepreneursolution.com
microsoftdynamicsentrepreneur.com
microsoftdynamicsentrepreneurbeta.com
microsoftdynamicsentrepreneursolution.com
microsoftdynamicsentrepreneursolutionbeta.com

There's a lot more. Go see.

(And no apologies either for the Julian Cope reference. It's Monday morning. Sometimes, crawling about naked under a turtle shell seems the sanest thing possible)
