Banks claim TJX breach twice as bad

Posted by Tom Espiner

A group of banks have alleged that TJX may have lost 96 million credit card details, over twice the 46 million admitted by TJX.

An article in the Boston Globe says the group of banks is sueing TJX over the alleged costs of the breach.

According to sealed testimony presented by the banks from credit card companies Visa and Mastercard, the data breach affected about 65 million Visa account numbers and about 29 million MasterCard numbers.

The claims filed by the banks on Tuesday are part of an ongoing legal battle between TJX and the Fifth Third of Ohio, as well as a bigger group of plaintiff institutions, says the Boston Globe article.
