Gaming.
Already a keen gamer, I wanted to know more about the hardware side, mostly. Talking to my new online gaming friends, it was clear I needed better graphics & more RAM. One such friend sold me a used graphics card with 64mb onboard RAM. I soon purchased another 128mb stick of RAM. The performance was now slightly, but noticeably better.
