Skype what a total waste of time and money.

This is a total and utter disgrace for a company who is earning millions of pounds a year and does not seem to care one cent about it's customers.

And Skype call this Customer Service part 1.

Posted by a1gjv

This Skype customer was a happy customer until he had to deal with the total and utter incompetence of Skype’s Customer Service. He was happy with the products he purchased namely SkypePro and Skypein which came with FREE voice mail which he really did not want but thought well it's free why not use it, if we find that it is not really any good for us we can always turn it off, that’s when his problems started because even though he could turn off Voice Mail (VM) while his Skype was switched on, as soon as he turned off his PC Skype would automatically turned VM back ON without his knowledge.

Having read all the information about VM and finding that what he wanted to do could not be done, through no fault on his part the sent in a Support Request to Customer Support or (CS).

Below is the full story that took place between the customer and CS, I would advise you to sit down before you start reading otherwise you may well fall down in amazement at what was said by CS.

Subject: How to turn off voicemail for SkypePro/SkypeIn
Message:

I have a SkypePro account with SkypeIn and I have voicemail turned off in the Options settings. Yet when I call my SkypeIn number (or call from another Skype account) when I am offline, it still goes to voicemail.

Your knowledgebase says:

"If you are not logged into Skype the call will either ring busy or be
redirected to voicemail according to your voicemail preferences."
but even though I have turned voicemail off in my preferences, it still goes to voicemail. Is this a bug in Skype or a bug in the ocumentation?

I want it to ring busy if I am offline. How can I turn voicemail OFF?

Thanks

“Authors comment...... At this stage the reply he should of received from CS is to say that what he wants to do can’t be done, you can only switch VM OFF when your Skype is running, as soon as you shut down your PC then Skype will automatically switch VM back ON. I together with thousands of other none CS people know this, so why did CS not know it also. Below is the reply he received to his question”

Hello customer,

Thank you for contacting Skype Support.

To configure your Voicemail, please go to Tools -> Voicemail...

Now you can enable or disable your Voicemail by ticking or unticking the option "Send unanswered calls to Skype Voicemail" in the section called "Voicemail".

In the same section you can configure which calls you want nswered by your Voicemail and after which time, by clicking on the blue "Advanced settings" link.

In the Voicemail window's "Welcome Message" section, there are 3 buttons.
* Play - plays the current greeting
* Record - records a new Voicemail greeting. During recording also acts as a stop button (which saves the greeting)
* Reset - resets a personalized greeting to a default one

To record your personalised voicemail greeting, click on the red "record" button. Once done recording, first press the red "Stop" button, before pressing the "Save" button. This will upload the voicemail to our server.

You can also have a look at our guide, which shows you how to configure your voicemail: http://www.skype.com/help/guides/stepbyste...cemail_windows/

If you need more help with your Voicemail configuration, feel free to
contact us again

Best regards,

Davide - Skype Support

Thank you for your reply. I would appreciate it if you could actually READ
MY BUG REPORT instead of just giving a "standard" response.

I have already tried your suggestions and it DOES NOT WORK.

I *have* unticked "Send unanswered calls to Skype Voicemail" in the section called "Voicemail" but when I call my SkypeIn number when I am not online it *still* goes to voicemail.

I want it to ring busy if I am offline. I do not want it to go to
voicemail, ever. (FYI: I also have call forwarding turned off).

Please resolve this problem, otherwise we will be cancelling all of business Skype accounts, and our SkypeIn number, and requesting a refund, as the current behaviour makes it useless to us.

Regards

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Skype Support.

In order to solve this problem, please reinstall Skype as follows:

1. Backup your Skype chat history files.

• Close Skype
• Go to "C:\Documents and
Settings\your_windows_username\ApplicationData\Skype\your_skype_name" and copy this directory somewhere safe (burn to CD, etc.)
To be continued........

A way around the problem: look up the senior management of Skype on their website. Then look up their names in the contacts part of Skype itself. You will find them all there - then send them a message. See below for great customer service responsee earlier this morning (Thurs 17th Jan 08):

AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE – WELL DONE SKYPE
After receiving an email from Skype informing me that they had cleared my balance due to 180 days inactivity, I sent an IM to four of the senior management listed on the Skype website (I looked up their names on Skype). Within 3 minutes, I was contacted by Stefan Oberg (head of Telecom division), and the following exchange took place – the best, and fastest customer service response I have ever seen:

[12:47:40] Stefan Öberg says: Hi Nick
[12:47:44] Stefan Öberg says: What is the problem?
[12:48:04] Stefan Öberg says: How can I help?
[12:48:38] Nick Balfour says: Thanks for the response - I had my balance wiped out for inactivity (180 days). My nanny told me that she had used the phone last week to keep it alive - I didn't feel I needed to check.
[12:49:13] Nick Balfour says: A more elegant policy would be to refund people's unused balance to their paypal account.
[12:49:15] Stefan Öberg added kristjansaar to this chat
[12:49:30] Stefan Öberg says: Kristjan
[12:49:36] Stefan Öberg says: FYI
[12:49:47] Stefan Öberg says: Kristjan
[12:49:59] Stefan Öberg says: Can you pls make sure we refund the balance to Nicks
[12:50:01] Stefan Öberg says: acct.
[12:50:02] Stefan Öberg says: Thanks
[12:50:07] Stefan Öberg says: Nick - about the policy
[12:50:14] Stefan Öberg says: We have looked at different alternatives
[12:50:30] Stefan Öberg says: in the case the customer is using PP that could be an option
[12:50:34] Stefan Öberg says: will consider that
[12:50:35] Stefan Öberg says: thanks
[12:50:40] Stefan Öberg says: Hope all works out
[12:50:41] Stefan Öberg says: if not
[12:50:44] Nick Balfour says: appreciate the fast reaction.
[12:50:45] Stefan Öberg says: pls tell me again
[12:50:52] Stefan Öberg says: No problem
[12:51:01] Nick Balfour says: get back to running the company!
[12:51:09] Stefan Öberg says: Will do
[12:51:10] Nick Balfour says: bye.
[12:51:10] Stefan Öberg says: thanks
[12:51:12] Stefan Öberg says: :)
[12:51:14] Stefan Öberg says: bye
[12:51:45] Kristjan Saar says: 1,82 was taken away, it had been given back. :)
[12:52:12] Nick Balfour says: Hey - I'm a big swinging guy !
[12:52:21] Nick Balfour says: thanks anyway - didnt realise it was so little...
[12:52:28] Stefan Öberg says: (y)
[12:52:36] Nick Balfour says: More an ethical issue really.
[12:52:40] Nick Balfour says: Thanks - bye.
[12:54:06] Kristjan Saar says: no problem, have a nice day :)
