SADiE dies, BBC mourns...

Posted by Rupert Goodwins

Bad news in the pro audio world, SADiE is no more. Or rather, Studio Audio and Video, the company that produced the SADiE audio editing package, has closed down.

You may not have heard of SADiE, but you will have heard its output - it's the editor of choice within BBC Radio, which rather depends on the software. Indeed, it's in the process of moving numbers of its staff onto the system away from ProTools (made by Digidesign/AVID, still going strong), and has invested heavily in the technology.

Oops. Still, other major components of the BBC's new editing system are going well, right? Perhaps not.

I'm sure those nice people at Siemens who are now running so much of the BBC's technology are well on top of things. Given the company's track record, how could it be otherwise?
