Gartner: Analysts always get it right
The Gartner Symposium and IT Expo for Spring 2008 kicked off on Monday. Held in the home of US trade shows, Las Vegas, around 2,000 delegates sat down on Monday to four days of analysis and future predictions along with perhaps a little gambling thrown in.
The main theme from Gartner was one of we told you so. The analysts say they have been predicting troubled economic time in IT for the past four yeas so they have gone into, “don’t blame us” mode.
Fair comment, or a case of rampant smugness? It is probably too early to tell yet, but the analysts seem keen to put as positive a spin on the slump as they can, along with as much helpful advice as can be crammed into four days.
In the race to establish the buzz word that the assembled IT managers will take away with them, the early favourite is “the cloud”. I hope that it brings forward some good ideas, otherwise I might get lost.
