Impressive Distribution Speed at Ubuntu

Posted by J.A. Watson

I booted up Ubuntu today and found an unusually large batch of updates ready to be installed. A quick glance at the update list showed that they were already distributing Firefox 3.0 and OpenOffice.org 2.4.1! That's pretty impressive reaction time for new releases and updates. I had been trying to download Firefox 3, but of course it was moving at a crawl because their "world record" attempt had apparently succeeded in overloading their distribution system (did they not think of this in advance?), and I was looking for the OpenOffice update the other day, because it fixes what seems to be a pretty serious security problem.

Well done, I continue to be pleased with Ubuntu, and more impressed with it every day.
