'Twas the night before 3G iphone - well almost.
I cannot believe this - just over 48 hours to go - and this is all over a black plastic phone from Apple.
Get a grip young sir, talk to your friends about something else, don't watch the Apple advert again and please how many times do you have to look at those pictures, no don't look at the WWDC launch of the phone again and what are you doing simply sitting in your chair in front of the glowning screen night by night, regressing into a child of 8 just before Christmastime, too wrapped up in expectation to do little else but to hope and pray you get what you want.
I had better add I have so far pre-registered for one, confirmed my intention to buy and received my email back, but STILL with no guarantee I will actually get one.
I am told some are flying to New Zealand to get the first phone on Friday (now that IS dedication) and others cue as if for rations for days out side the Apple stores.
But this in the end what still gets me even after 10 years is that I can't quite put my finger on what makes Apple fans do this ? Are we all naturally obsessive ? Do we just like nice packaging ? ( I spent 10 minutes looking at the first unboxing photos of the 3G today ) or are we all closet designers looking for that perfect match of tech and human interaction ?
It really gets me after all these years since my first Mac Classic, the portables with passive grayscale matrix screen, the screaming 14.4 modems, the flirt with Newtons, the G4 powerbook titanium, oooh la-la the first teal iMacs, til finally the ipod and now iphone- what makes me do this ? - Really can somebody find me an answer please and make it before Friday at 8am....
