I for one welcome our new overlor... oh, hold on, that's me
These are exceptionally interesting times in what has always been an exceptionally interesting job. In the good old days, editors pontificated from the safety of paper and monthly deadlines. Now, we're having to use exactly the same systems as we're writing about our success depends on innovative adoption and adaptation of new technology, and an ability to react to events as they happen. We have video, blogs, entire communities of people who don't sit on the editorial desks but have lots to say about the industry and the way we cover it. Keep it coming.
But there are some constants. Like any enterprise, ZDNet UK depends utterly on its team and its management, and I'm surrounded by outrageously talented, hard-working people at every level. . We've got some of the best informed and most critical readers on the planet, many of you making the trip with us since the days of PC Magazine (One Hundred 486 PCs Tested! What were we thinking?). And it's not as if we're going to run out of things to write about.
So stick with us. We've got a few ideas for what happens next. I'm sure you do, too.
Forward in all directions!

The best bit is the relocation of our daily news meetings down the pub... journalism's a hard game, I tells ya...
(Oh, that's only for Dialogue Box meetings, I've just been told. Dammit.)
Rupert, you've gone and reminded me of the '100 486SX PCs tested' issue of PC Magazine UK (I was the production editor, I read every one of the reviews). That was just one of four group tests in the phonebook-sized second issue of the mag. Had to do a spell in a health farm after it went to press as I recall (somewhat hazily). Much prefer this 'Web 2.0' lark...
How are the mighty risen! Congratulations, super-duper overlord. The secret is to get everyone else to do the work now (from one who also remembers the very first issue of PC Magazine UK: 27 (count 'em!) word processors usability-tested). Long may your lunch budget bloom.
Congratulations Rupert, and may none of the following advice prove to be even remotely useful:

Congratulations! Couldn't have happened to a nicer man :)

Rupert... who?
Somebody had to say it :)
You're still going to have time for this blog and the Dialogue Box aren't you? They've always brightened up my lunch breaks.
Blogging and boxing are not going away! They're far too much fun.
Good news then on all counts. Congratulations Rupert!
Thanks everyone. Especially BT and the European Commission, who have decided to celebrate by kicking off two hot news stories about the future of broadband.
Team! Keyboards at the ready - wait for it wait for it - TYPE!
Glad you're not going to be writing less Rupe! Your blog and writings and Dialog Box have always been the high point of my online readings. I'm moving to Australia soon but rest assured you will remain in my bookmarks list.
Congratulations, even if it's a little late.
Great news
