Ubuntu: and another thing…
I resintalled Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop Edition yesterday, because I need to set up a LAMP web server to be able to work on web sites on my ThinkPad X60S laptop.
It only occurred to me this morning that I didn’t have to do any configuration. And that includes the wireless connectivity! For me, zero config is an acid test of software and particularly operating systems. For me, GNU/Linux has come of age!
Of course, YMMV ;)

I too have Ubuntu installed on a Lenovo X61. It installs faultlessly in just a few minutes, fully configured and ready to go. Updates are so much easier than Windows and update all the programmes which are installed. There is a huge repository additional programmes for anything you can care to mention and installation of these is a breeze.
Absolutely, I think the update features of Ubuntu are the key selling [sic] point, and the ease with which you can install new software. Synaptic rocks :)
I couldn't agree with you more. I've been testing various Linux variants pretty extensively, on both my S6510 (Intel) and S2110 (AMD) laptops, and Ubuntu has taken everything in stride.
