Think Your Skype Call is Secure? Read This!

Posted by J.A. Watson

There is growing, and credible, speculation that Skype has built in a back door to allow monitoring of SKype calls. Heise Online has a good article about it.

So, what we have now is a program that goes to great lengths to avoid corporate security, disguises its activity and changes settings in order to penetrate firewalls from the inside out, and now looks like it might have a back door built in to for monitoring?

Skype, of course, has no comment on this - but tellingly, not even the slightest hint of a denial.

Looks like it was designed so officials could eavesdrop on conservations.

A report in the reputable Heise Online says the issue was discussed at a meeting with ISPs last month where high-ranking officials at the Austrian interior ministry claims “it is not a problem for them to listen in on Skype conversations.”
The report said a number of others at the meeting confirmed that claim.
