My favorite Firefox Add-ons

Posted by Jake Rayson

Yes, it’s that time again, a simple list of things what I like. For my next post, it will be Cakes Of The World. For today though, it is Firefox Addons. These are the ones I use the most in my day-to-day work. Ie the mosat useful ones:

Web developer Add-ons

• ColorZilla
• Fangs
• Firebug
• Html Validator
• IE View Lite
• Nuke Anything Enhanced
• Web Developer

General Add-ons

• Adblock Plus
• Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper
• Copy Plain Text
• CustomizeGoogle
• Delicious Bookmarks (classic mode)
• DownThemAll!
• Duplicate Tab
• Flashblock
• Xmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
• Personal Menu
• QuickNote
• QuickRestart
• SiteLauncher
• Screengrab!

Search Engines

• Google Maps UK
• Google Images
• Wikipedia (Eng)
• The Free Dictionary
• Amazon UK
• Ebay UK
• Flickr Tags
• Youtube
• Delicious

I have used FEBE and CLEO in the past to make one όber Add-on. But to be honest, it’s so quick to use the improved Add-on feature in Firefox 3 (Tools -> Add-ons -> Get Add-ons) that there’s not much point any more.

The quickest way I've found to install the extensions is to control+click the links above to open them in new tabs. Also, here's a link to my favourite Old Skool winestripe theme.

Thanks for the list Jake, very useful. Several there that I didn't know, or hadn't tried.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the cake list... will you be sending out free samples to test? I would be happy to help with evaluations...

Glad to be of service, these are my most tried and tested add-ons. I have others that didn't make the grade purely because I don't use them any more (View Formatted Source, CSS Viewer etc). Firebug really is the bee's knees, I use it more even than Web Developer toolbar. Oh, and QuickNote is probably the single most useful general purpose add-on.

If you want to have cake and eat it, alas you'll have to buy your own ;)
