NHS to buy computers from Dixons

Posted by David Meyer

According to ChannelWeb, the NHS is going to buy more than 60,000 PCs and laptops from Dell, HP and, er, DSGi, a.k.a. the Dixons Group (PC World, Currys etc).

Frankly, it's Friday afternoon and I can't think of anything to say about this that isn't too obvious, other than: What could go wrong?

Hang on, so why dixons as well ?
I hope that the ones being supplied by the manafacture direct will be free from all the trialware. I imagine the deal with dixons would involve managers being able to pop down to the local currys/PC World with their special vouchers to get more machines in a hurry.

It may be that you then have a mixture of XP pro and Vista bussiness on the same networks, and in turn this could spell trouble, with managers then proclaiming that they don t know anything, "cos the computers ******".

A salesrep in the firm i last worked for ended up putting his hand(yes hand, and not fist) through the screen of his nice new vista business laptop, not knowing that he could have requested XP pro as part of the deal!!
