ISO says no to OOXML appeals
As for those further appeals, it seems unlikely that the UK will be a source.
Anyway, here's Andy Updegrove's take, and here's Groklaw's take. As Pamela Jones says:
That should be hilarious, when they publish it and anyone tries to actually use it. Anyone? Bueller?

I really don't think this will surprise anyone, after all when cash is handed out, or threats applied, people will usually fall in line and do what is expected of them.
I used to respect ISO. Not any more. I wonder how many others are in the same position.
The twists, turns and doublespeak were covered in great detail on Groklaw and I had difficulty in accepting that a supposed international standards organisation could behave like a bunch of over-weaned, spoilt schoolkids.
Well, what goes around comes around. I think it'll be amusing to see Microsoft pulling out the OXML argument when they can't do it themselves. For that matter I would suggest that they are emotionally incapable of complying with standards unless they "extend" them.
Who knows, if they try maybe the next version of Office might be so bad even Microsoft might care.
Ah well, lucky for me I've discovered an amusing little tipple from a little bit east of here, Tyskie beer! It's my new favourite crutch.
