How do YOU test your broadband speed ?

Posted by utzy

I changed my broadband provider and have had emails galore and two engineer visits to the house which has I think been able to get my promised 12Mb connection up to at least 10Mb from the 4Mb I was getting.

Following discussions with engineers, marketing and tech people how does one honestly test your connection speed ?

Any offers very welcome...

Hi Utzy

this site has a broadband speed test. Just hover your mouse over resources at the top of this page (no need to click) and a link for the broadband speed test will appear just below it.

good luck.

yes I saw that one a while ago- they all vary so much that I wondered what the standard was in the end I timed downloads of specific files from one server, which I suppose is what these on line charts do.

another way to approach this would be to download something like a free podcast (bbc springs to mind) and it should tell you your download speed as it s happening. I have noticed some wild variations myself during downloads, so I think this is normal.

as for the ultimate tester, I m not sure on that one.
