Unwittingly Working For Google.
the local mobile phone (let us give you the world for a contract) shop and asked them what they thought of the coming google android platform.
They looked at me as though I was a madman I kid you not, they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. So I suggested they search the term and they did.
I left the shop, not wanting to hang around and be percieved as a smart ass, but curiosity led me in to the O2, then Voda, and finally the orange shop. Nobody in these places knew what I was talking about, then it dawned on me. Google don't advertise, they rely on word of mouth, and there I was being the mouth piece!
It would be interesting to know if this is a familiar situation elsewhere in the country, even the world, or just a quirk here in
central somerset.

Ask for any new Apple product before its announced and even the guys i the apple store say we know less than you do, seems unbelievable when they make announcements and the product is available at the stores straight away are the boxes labelled secret do not open until noon tomorrow..
When your head is full of best tarriffs prices and text/minute deals the technology doesn't seem to enter into the equation.
It's rather sad that employees of these companies train up on a need to sell basis and the fact that Android isn't live in the marketplace means they don't need /want to know ( taking on new information may push out other information).
I can imagine that around the 20th of this month all these shop assistants rounded up into a room for a briefing on T-mobiles G1 and android.

It is indeed a sad thing that the type of staff that work in these places have about as much technical knowledge as a hamster.
It's amazing when you do find a true techy working in one of these places though. When I bought my printer in Staples last month I asked the superbly geeked-up sales guy what was the difference between the 100 and 150 quid machines from the same manufacturer and he knew what was in the guts of both beasts so he said...
"This one's blue and this one's black."
All just marketing really innit?
Although Roger - you were in central Somerset... and coming from Clevedon as I do and with a surname like Bridgwater... I have my own opinions about the West Country!

Ha Ha,we all know blue ink costs more than black. When I first saw your name, I thought you were from fridgewater..although I soon learned. There are geeks here who believe that Glastonbury was way Ahead when it came to deploying broadband in the UK. Although I can't at this moment verify such information!

Roger, you have very weird taste in music - LOL! The tracks sound very well produced though. Kudos! What software sequencer do you use? I'll have to check out this Weebly thing - never heard of it...
I made them on music 2000 and 3000, playstation 1 and 2. But thats not to say I didn't spend a year synthesising the analog bubble type sounds, then composed and arranged everything on a virtual keyboard. In fact I think it's amazingly powerful music software, comparable to pro audio logic, fruity loops and the like. Oh If you think they were wierd then check this out.
