OpenOffice.org 3 Released - But Please Be Patient

Posted by J.A. Watson

OpenOffice.org 3.0 was released yesterday (Monday), on schedule. That's the good news. The bad news is, the demand for it has been so massive that their download servers have been swamped! It was not even possible to get a connection for most of the day yesterday. The situation seems to be better right now, I can at least connect and get a download started, but it is early morning here in Switzerland, which means the middle of the night in the U.S. and Canada.

This is, of course, a very temporary situation, and once the tidal wave of download requests recedes, things will be back to normal again.

Update: It appears to me that Release Candidate 4 (RC4) actually became the final release. I just downloaded the final release for Linux, and it says that it is build 9358, which is the same thing that my currently installed RC4 programs say they are. So if you are already using RC4, there is probably no need to waste time and bandwidth downloading again.
