VoxOx - New Video/Audio/Text IM/Chat Program

There's a new program coming into the Video/IM market, VoxOx from TelCentris Inc. From the description on their web page, it could be quite interesting, combining Multisystem/Multiprotocol IM, Text Messaging (SMS), Audio calling, including computer-to-computer, call-out and call-in, Video calling, including multi-party video conferencing, and a variety of call forwarding and voice mail capabilities. They say they are going to have versions for Windows, MacOS, Linux and mobile devices. If all of that comes together, and works properly, VoxOx will be a strong competitor in this area. IF.

Now reality starts to set in. The program is still in beta, which means lower your expectations, at least for the moment. Fair enough. Only the Windows and MacOS (Intel) versions are available for download right now; MacOS PowerPC, Linux and Mobile versions are "coming soon". So I downloaded and installed the Windows version, which seemed to go very smoothly. It started up, and looked pretty nice - clear, colorful graphics and easy to read. However, when I tried to create a new account, I got "The server made a boo boo!". Hmmmm.

So, I will be keeping an eye on this program, and hoping for the best. If it eventually is able to do everything that it claims, it will be very nice. But they have set themselves some very high goals, and it is going to take a lot of talent and a lot of hard work to reach them. Time will tell.
