NebuAd in the dock
Targeted behavioural advertising company NebuAd is the subject of a class action lawsuit in the US, according to the Associated Press.
People are angry that they had their web-surfing habits tracked, said the article, and are demanding compensation to the tune of $5m.
From the AP piece:
"'Like a vacuum cleaner, everything passing through the pipe of the consumers' Internet connection was sucked up, copied and forwarded,' stated the lawsuit, which accuses NebuAd and the ISPs of breaking federal and state privacy laws."
Similar claims about infringement of privacy and interception laws have been made about 2006 and 2007 BT trials of Phorm's ad-tracking technology in the UK, although both BT and Phorm have denied that any laws were breached.
