Google wants Chrome preinstalled on new PCs

Posted by David Meyer

Last Thursday the Times ran an interview with Google's vice president of product management, in which Sundar Pichai claimed the web giant was trying to get its Chrome browser preinstalled on new computers.

The interesting bit in this article is the idea that Microsoft would be virtually powerless to stop Google from doing so. Why? Because all that antitrust malarkey concentrated on the bundling of Internet Explorer on all new systems. In other words, Microsoft may be mightily steamed at the idea of a rival browser enjoying the same default status, but there ain't a lot it can do about it without risking a return to some very expensive, drawn-out battles with the European Commission et al.

Ain't regulation great? Well, sometimes at least...

Heh Heh that is great.....I thin chrome is great fun too....but I'm not convinced it's as safe as firefox though. It would nice to see that preinstalled instead. After all the windows update add on works a treat!
