Intel to tackle AMD in 'ultrathin' market

Posted by David Meyer

AMD, having annoyed tech taxonomists everywhere by launching its Athlon Neo chipset for the 'ultrathin' category of notebooks (cheaper than an ultraportable, more highly specced than a netbook), already has Intel snapping at its heels.

According to our sister publication News.com, Chipzilla is prepping a version of its Core architecture for the same market segment. Sources claim a 'tweaked' version of Intel's existing ultra-low-voltage processors will target notebooks that are less than one inch thick, and peg the dimensions of the mysterious new chipset at 22mm x 22mm.

We have, naturally, asked Intel for comment, but have not received any at the time of writing. Sounds about right, though.
