Nortel still OK with 2012 Olympic commitments, OK?

Posted by David Meyer

Nortel, which has just gone Chapter 11, wants us to know that everything is still fine with its commitments re the 2012 London Olympics.

A statement came through today from Mario DiMascio, the Canadian telecoms infrastructure firm's VP of enterprise business in the 'northern region':

"I'm sure you will have heard about Nortel's decision to restructure its business operations and will have questions about how this might affect our involvement with LOCOG [the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games] and London 2012.

Let me take the opportunity to reassure you that our commitment to the Games as a Tier 1 local sponsor and official Network Infrastructure Provider remains unchanged as does our commitment to all our customers. The solutions we are providing for the London 2012 Olympic Games are among the most demanding communications environments in the world."

A call to LOCOG elicited this response: "We're aware of the situation and are working through it with Nortel."

Well... good! Glad that's cleared up, then. On with the show and all that...
