Where'd all the Green IT go?

Posted by David Meyer

Last year the CeBIT tech show in Germany had a small but worthy Green IT section. This year they decided to give it more space. Here's the result:

Now, is this verdant wasteland the result of CeBIT's recession-based contraction, or the Green IT industry's recession-based contraction? Tough call...

Hmmm - extra space equals more light, more air-con and more materials for stands, carpets, marketing bumpf - not very green or efficient is it.

interesting to see, but given the current economic downturn, the services sector looks to have finally taken a hit. We're starting to feel the pinch and on the basis of it, if people aren't recycling their old kit, they sure as hell aren't buying any new kit either. Besides, what's the point in R&D if your nearest competitor is being stifled as well by lack of sales. Better to hold onto the cash and keep the bank manager happy- albeit afloat!

Green IT tech is in effect in it's infancy and it only appeals to a small sector of the market at the moment. Suspect plans have been put on hold until markets pick up again and newer technologies can be plugged to the masses.
