Yes, they have left the stage. It would happen anyway, sooner or later. That’s because of their nonoptimality that leads to high maintenance cost. And cost price is directly proportional to the expected financial return from a service, and inversely proportional to its attractiveness for users (ads etc.)
Before the loss ratio of such strategies has become apparent, the world market of Hosted CMS was in information blockade. Google and Yahoo! could afford to spend millions of dollars for advertising of their primitive services. With their huge search engines they couldn’t miss the chance of using their own search ads. And as a result the whole world is hooked on the services that are no way the best.
Now the market is gradually being conquered by the services that really deserve it. And in the first place it’s uCoz. It can be rightfully considered to be the leader as it offers more free services than others. And at the same time the quality of the services is an example for other to aim at.
Among the disadvantages is the absence of an e-shop module. But according to the developers, this gap will be filled up soon.
