Report: Orange fails in T-Mobile takeover bid
Orange tried but failed to negotiate a takeover of T-Mobile UK, according to a report in The Observer.
The report suggests that an offer from Orange was rebuffed by T-Mobile's parent company, Deutsche Telecom. The article also notes rumours that Vodafone tried in vain to convince DT to swap T-Mobile UK for Vodafone's Turkish network.
It emerged a month ago that DT was considering selling off T-Mobile UK. Shortly after those reports came out, DT announced a massive €1.8bn write-down for T-Mobile UK and noted a need for "consolidation" in the British market.
