BBC News website taken down by hosting problems
The heavily-used site was down between 12:20 and 12:40, at times offering only slow, limited functionality, and at times being completely down.
A BBC spokesperson told ZDNet UK that the site had been "having technical problems this morning" due to "network problems with the London hosting centre". The spokesperson could not immediately identify the hosting centre concerned.
Although the site appeared to be back up and running at the time of writing, the spokesperson warned that the unspecified technical issues could continue to "affect access to the site and iPlayer and search in the meantime".

A couple of minutes after my original post, BBC News editor Steve Hermann posted a blog on the outage:
People had problems getting onto the BBC News website a little while ago. We think we've tracked it down to a problem with our network and the problem should now be fixed. Let us know if it's not. Apologies for those of you who were trying to access the site and couldn't.
