Oracle hikes some prices by up to 40pc

Posted by David Meyer

Oracle has increased the US prices of some of its licences by up to 40 percent, according to reports.

The hikes affect a database configuration management pack and processor licences for Oracle's diagnostic and tuning packs, an article in Techworld notes.

As the piece notes, it is not easy to discern when the prices were jacked up. ZDNet UK has tried — unsuccessfully — to get hold of Oracle's UK operations to find out whether their prices have risen here too.

Interestingly, Forrester analyst Ray Wang is quoted as saying the price hikes could play into the hands of corporate IT procurement managers, as a higher starting price means scope for greater negotiation-based discounts — and more kudos for the managers who achieve them.
