Patients should see records online, NHS experts say
At a roundtable discussion last week, a panel of experts said that patients would benefit, as they would be able to monitor their own health and treatment. In addition, they would be able to provide the records to doctors unfamiliar with the patient's history — in an emergency, for example.
While some health trusts have begun uploading electronic medical care records to a database, significant barriers remain, the experts said. For more on why the NHS should put records online, head over to silicon.com.

I've just had a letter from them. It made me so angry I could barely speak!
Fisrt it is an opt-out system - say nothing and your details automatically go online. Opt-outs have a habit of getting 'lost'.
Second they manage to fill an entire page without actually saying what is involved.
Third they put 'secure' and 'online' in the same sentence.. Major finance establisments with decades of experience can't keep their data secure, and at least there is the chance of doing a clearout and starting with completely new accounts. Government/NHS has an apalling security record, and once your personal data is out, there is NO way back.
I'm debating writing to my MP, but as he is a staunch Labor man I doubt I'll get much joy. I wondering if MEPs would be any help.
Damn, and I'm STILL furious.
This all smells a bit funny I think the government is trying to pull a fast one hear, by doing it this way they are cutting corners instead of investing in a decent system, they could also be paving the way for more private care schemes, the scheming buggers.
I will be bringing this matter up with my GP when I next see her see what I can find out, it doesn't bode well at all just the other day there I received an unsealed envelope from my local electoral office.
