HTC Touch2 to run Windows Mobile 6.5

Posted by Sandra Vogel

Hot on the heels of the revelation yesterday that Windows Mobile 6.5 will debut on 6 October (see David Meyer’s post) we are seeing the first of what could be a flurry of announcements of devices that will run the latest handheld operating system from Microsoft.

First past the post is HTC, whose Touch2 will, of course, add HTC’s own TouchFLO interface to Windows Mobile itself. HTC is also pre-installing additional extras such as Google Maps and YouTube.

In addition Microsoft’s Windows MarketPlace for Mobile and My Phone will both feature on the handset allowing you to download apps direct to the phone and back up over the air for free respectively.

HTC says the Touch2 will be available on 6 October. Who knows how many others will join in with handsets available on launch date? Microsoft certainly could do with making a splash with its latest revision of Windows Mobile if it is to make up lost ground and it says that

In Europe we can expect to see Windows Mobile 6.5 activity from mobile operators Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG and Vodafone, and phone manufacturers Acer, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba.
