High Court injunction served via Twitter

Posted by Tom Espiner

The High Court has granted an injunction that will be served via Twitter.

The injunction was granted to self-styled Thatcherite blogger Donal Blaney. It calls for a person who is allegedly impersonating Blaney on Twitter to stop, and reveal their identity.

The Guardian wrote that this could be the beginning of the end for the traditional serving of court papers. The BBC said the injunction would be effective from 1930 BST.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a monumental piece of stupidity?

So now the court doesn't have to actually serve the injuction at all. It can be delivered to thin air.

There is no way to prove that the person received it, or that he or she actually comes under a British court's duristriction.

And waht about the very real possibility that someone's account is being used without their knowledge. Just how secure is twitter?
