BMC Software acquires Tideway Systems

Posted by Carly Newman

Texas-based BMC Software announced on Monday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire start up IT discovery solutions provider Tideway Systems.

In a statement on Monday, BMC said that the acquisition of London-based Tideway will enhance its Business Service Management Platform and help organisations to minimise the risks associated with business-critical initiatives such as data centre consolidation, virtualisation and compliance.

John Peters, general manager for Atrium Software Business at BMC, said that it was not BMC's policy to disclose details on its transactions, but did say that a full-scale shake-up of Tideway's infrastructure was unlikely.

"The technology that Tideway brings is very attractive, but just as important are the people," he told ZDNet UK on Tuesday. "There is a lot of talent there and we look forward to maintaining a London operation."

As well as supporting the complete set of discovery requirements for BMC's business platform, Tideway's technology will be integrated with BMC's Atrium Configuration Management Database.

BMC believes the transaction will be completed within the week, and said in its statement, "When combined... BMC will deliver unmatched visibility into the data centre and rapidly reduce the time and resources required to model, manage and maintain applications and services."
