Europe initiates cloud community
EuroCloud, a trade group dedicated to networking and promoting European cloud and software-as-a-service providers, launched on Tuesday.
The organisation aims to provide a network for software providers around Europe to make alliances and share best practices. EuroCloud is lead by Pierre-Jose Billotte, president of the French ASP Forum which has now become EuroCloud France, and membership is open to any software-as-a-service (SaaS) or cloud participant.
Each country is being coordinated by a local expert, with Phil Wainewright of Procullux Ventures spearheading the UK project.
"We want to give providers a voice and make sure that the industry is explaining SaaS in a way that makes sense to business people," Wainwright told ZDNet UK on Tuesday. "It seems as though the concerns people have about cloud computing are there because the concept has not been properly explained."
The industry organisation is launching in seven European countries including France, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain, and has won backing from 29 SaaS and cloud vendors, including Amazon, Salesforce.com, and Microsoft.
