BT: Fibre maps don't show the whole picture
BT has responded to the Point Topic maps, of fibre rollouts planned across the UK over the next few years, that we published yesterday.
The telecoms giant, which will be rolling out the majority of the next-generation broadband access, said Point Topic had left out some of the areas where BT will deploy fibre, because the research firm doesn't yet know of them.
"Openreach will be deploying super-fast broadband to 40 percent of the UK by 2012, but has currently only announced the exchange locations covering 1.5m premises," BT said.
"The decision on where to deploy NGA is made after consultation with our Communications Provider Customers and based on a range of factors including demand, network topology and geography. Making the business case for NGA investment in areas of lower population density remains challenging, and will require a level of government support if the ambitions of the Government's Digital Britain report are to be met."
