iParadise Lost

So here we have a slick little palm pre pebble that runs a whole new webOS built for the internet office and home age its being born at the CES with ex Apple Jon Rubenstein and chief Ed Colligan sharing the love. So far then :

3.1 inch touch screen
gesture area
slide keyboard
USB connection
replacable battery
3 mega camera
tabbed desktop (like old hyper cards)

They are calling a real flow OS something that just floats around with you rearrange all the apps and where they are slide app off the screen to delete all apps are auto saving....

There will be a GSM version but absolutely no word on price and when it will be out (palm are terrible at releasing stuff). Seems there is no onscreen keyboard and one of the key difference is the OS seems to bulk everything together IM SMS email messages by person or date. You can all drift in and out seemlessly between application.

It also comes with a dreamy device called a touchstone for magnetic charging look nice but no sure how practical that is.

Love to get my hands on one as didn't the RIM Storm look great until you touched the thing !!

For some reason I am excited to hear what Palm have up their sleeve for later today. As long as they don't do an apple and announce nothing then we may have a new OS and a new phone from them. Rumours point to a sliding keyboard smartphone. But some of the questions I have remain

1 Palm have had pen touch screens for ages will the new phone add true multi touch feature - no one has come near Apple on this ?

2 Will the screen be big enough to surf well I think 3.5 inches in the minimum required ?

3 Will the Nova OS be truly a contender with Android and iphone ones. Can we see the cool my day palm screens return will a new cool slick and very usable look

4 Will they have a new killer app and a real app store ?

5 Will they bring out a foleo v2 to whip up the netbook market

Have a look a the new visual centric palm.com website -all high res pictures and clean simple lines just three phones on the main pages, it all must be clearing the way for some big announcement. I think this year stuff Apple, let's see Palm make the limelight and grab some welcome attention. They have to be a part of the mobile device platform development it would be awful if they were not - there was a time no one came near the Palm OS for the resourcefulness and sheer volume of apps and that was way before the Apple app saw was even a twinkle in Big Phil schiller's eye...

PS Anyone still use a palm PDA out there ?

Given the meagre new offering of Macworld this year- two software updates and a new 17 inch MBP unibody enclosure - I really think good old Phil did rather well. And you know what for all he marketing showmanship I am not sure Jobs was that missed. In fact in my view the humble and erudite performance of good old Uncle Phil was a breath of fresh air.

As for the new, slim pickings really - but it you are looking for one machine to run your whole life/business and get you maybe through a day without battery charge then the new MBP is quite a top end monster. I will have to see the screen and also see the difference of the glossy and anit-glare version (love to see the later that does not have the black bezel I suppose it must be like a MacBook air on drugs. If only it were 3kg oh well perhaps at Macworld 2012 but wait a minute Apple won't be there....

Have a major press release issued from the CES conference. It has to be big, it has to be knock out. Is Palm the new Apple and is it's Nova software a real contender for the next gen mobile platform and will the new must touch screen handheld give Apple, RIM and Tmobile a run for their money, they SO so need a hit....
