Ash's diary
I have always wanted to maintain a diary but then realised that my past life is really interesting to me alone! So why make it public? But you never know, someone somewhere may find it worth reading and if not there will always be one loyal reader - me.
This of course will be a diary about my experiences in my professional life. Mainly about the joys (!?) of working in the technology field for the last 10 years...

Do techies love technology?
It is my bread and butter and I have a passion for it but when I get back home from work I don't find myself reading a book on Oracle or Java. I tried to but just didn't find it interesting. This made me question my interests and if they aligned with my ambitions and where my career was going.
And then it dawned upon me that what I loved about technology was the "application" of it in our every day lives. An object oriented piece of code was nowhere close to being as interesting as using Google Earth to zoom down on the school I used to go many years back.
This is where ZDNet comes into picture. The technology used is simple but its application is immensely powerful in creating this virtual space where every piece of information means something. A group of individuals can get together and form a "community" but an active community is when the interests and the thinking of the members are aligned. And while each one is trying to achieve their own personal goals they are also helping others to progress - and this is a sign of a successful community!
It is not just about exchanging information. It is about exchanging the "right" type of information. Give and take. That's what we call a win-win!
Next time more about how we started building this product...it is long story...
