The IBM Rational Anthem:

Posted by IT Anthems

IBM's Rational software development environment ain't the tool for any old fool. It's the weapone of thoice for the ultra-cool, according to the IBM Rational Anthem, which also points out that Rational developers are so good, they are the best in all the 'hood.

It's certainly a big change from the days of the staid old IBM Marching Song from 50 years ago, a long-time IT Anthems favourite. .

The Anthem seems to have appeared at Rational's UK software developers' conference iat IBM's Bedfont Lakes site in September), an event which also featureed legendary software engineer, Grady Booch.

The song previously appeared at Rational's US conference in 2006. In 2007, according to the video, US Rational developers spent their conference time jiving and swimming with mermaids.

This year's UK conference video tells a more earnest story of snacking and talking.

Here are the full lyrics of the splendid anthem (rhymes may need debugging). Excellent work, dudes!

THE RATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS

We are the winners
Who rule the road
We are the wiz-kids
Writing code

Code that rocks,
Code that crackles
Code that’s way above
Any known shackles

We know no bug
We know no snag
There’s an answer to everything
In the Rational bag!

Our code zips,
It gets no slag
‘Cos it always comes
With the Rational tag!

We do what we do,
And we do it good
We are the best…
In all the ‘hood!

CHORUS:
We are Rational
And we love making software that rocks!

Design, develop,
deploy, and deliver
Rational’s so cool
It’ll make you a believer!

Smooth, savvy,
safe and sturdy!
Rational’s the tool
That makes life a pardy!

CHORUS:
We are Rational
And we love making software that rocks!

Rational ain’t the tool
For any old fool
It’s the weapon of choice
For the ultra cool

There are those who talk
And those who walk,
Then there is Rational
That makes software rock!

CHORUS:
We are Rational
And we love making software that rocks!

DRB Hicom - singalong with them!

Posted by IT Anthems

Malaysia's DRB-Hicom - which has subsidiaries TCL and Midea in the electronics ssector - has a jolly oompah style anthem.

It also offer a video, the lyrics, and a "video minus one" option, so we can also practice singing the song.

For anyone else who wants to join in, here are the lyrics:

DRB-HICOMKU

Bumi mana kaki berpijak
Di situlah langit dijunjung
Di sini kami tinggalkan jejak
Mendukung nama DRB-HICOM

Kami kukuhkan jati diri
Jujur pada diri sendiri
Cekap bekerja seikhlas hati
Hasil usaha pasti berkualiti

Memegang amanah bangsa Malaysia
Kami bersemangat tiap masa
Di pentas dunia namamu mengharum
Tertera lambang DRB-HICOM

Bertekad menambahkan ilmu
Di alaf baru terus maju
Tetap setia selamanya denganmu
Kebanggaanku DRB-HICOMku

Check Point Anthem lives on...

Posted by IT Anthems

If anyone doubts that corporate anthems have a life of their own, they should have been at the Check Point press conference at the Infosec event in London's Olympia today.

"Do you know the Check Point song?" we asked.

"Oh yes," said a Check Point staffer, ruefully. Her children sing it to her, to, wind her up.

"It goes like this," she said, and launched into the song, accompanied by your anonymous reporter.

Check Point, you can be sure
Of the way ahead
Check Poimt, cos we secure
The Internet!!!

MP3 download and lyrics here .

A Corporate Anthem for spooks!

Posted by IT Anthems

The latest surprise from the world of corporate anthems is a stunner.

The US National Reconnasance Office, the spooks that run America's spy satellites, don't normally seek publicity. But a 40th anniversary can do strange things to a body. In 2000, the NRO created a soft-rock anthem, which a Freedom of Information request (actually a Mandatory Declassification Review request has only just released to the public.

It's a truly splendid piece of work, with stirring orchestrations, voice overs from various presidents, a corny key change, lots of historic film, and pictures of spook technology.

This link comes courtesy of the unbeatable spy network ZDNet's Rupert Goodwins - who tells me this film has the first official picture he has seen of a spy satellite.

And there's lots of rockets.

Introducing RockDotRock from Symantec

Posted by IT Anthems

I'm stunned. Mere days after I start my efforts to revive IT Anthems, Internet security company Symantec has jumped right into the field.

The Internet security company has formed a band, called RockDotRock, with a metal oeuvre, including classics such as

"Non-Traditional Two-Factor Authentication
Safe Internet Access - Gonna sweep the nation!"

Has to be heard to be believed.
