Out of the Bullpen
Changes at my job have transformed me from a starter to a relief pitcher, coming out of the bullpen fairly often, never knowing exactly when, or what mess I am walking into, whether I am trained for it, how many innings I'll be tossing, or whether I'm in to face just one batter. Puts things in perspective, and makes me kind of seasick to think about it, but on the other hand, relievers have won the tightest, most crucial of games. Ramiro Mendoza, a hero of the Yankee mini-dynasty of the late 1990s, is trying to regain his arm strength down in AAA after spying on that Boston team for for a couple years first. That's where I'll pick up my story, because I too was on a rise -- though a bumpy one -- and now, my new boss has sent me down to the minors but I got called right back up. Let's see what happens next time I'm on my way out of the bullpen, to the top of the mound.
