soyo.tv - Green Social Video & Video File Redundancy

When we went live with our website soyo.tv featuring green social video we opted out of having our own video upload and syndication software in favour of using the likes of YouTube on the hunch that posted once to the Internet a video file could and should be used multiple times and not replicated multiple times.

If two issues are factored; firstly, more then 50% of social networkers regularly use more then one site according to Park Associates. And secondarily, data centres according to Gartner are responsible for emitting 25% of the IT world’s CO2 emissions (2% of global carbon emissions, the same as the airline industry)…then it is easy to see that there is too much unnecessary duplication of data.

So, while Datamonitor projects that upwards of 70% of the entire content on the Internet will be user-generated within a few years…perhaps we should all try to get our own house in order on the issue of CO2 so that information and media is empowering people…not choking them.

Any suggestions are welcomed.
